More on the false negative rate for EMIT cannabinoids.

چکیده
We have been following with interest recent reports of false negative EMIT cannabinoid results (1,2). Our laboratory encountered similar problems in two New York City drug abuse proficiency survey samples. Samples 49N2 (February 1989) and 49T5 (August 1989) were spiked at 133 and 150 ng /mL respectively. Both yielded negative cannabinoid EMIT results when tested with the 100-ng/mL cutoff assay kits. Analysis of the two samples by fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) gave positive cannabinoid results at levels greater than 100 ng/mL. G C / M S quantitation yielded values of 108 and 171 ng /mL for 49N2 and 49T5 respectively (Table I). While this evaluation is inadequate to make general statements on false negative rate for EMIT cannabinoid assay, it does support previous observations that problems exist.

Observations on 'false negative' and 'false positive' rates.
One of the more discouraging trends in the literature of drug testing is the rate at which the toxicology community seems willing to accept imprecision in the use of its technical terms of art. This practice never fails to evoke derision when detected in lay commentary, but I am increasingly struck by the convergence of professional and lay literature in this respect. In the drug testing litera...
متن کاملEvaluation of Immunoassays for the Determination of MDMA and Cannabinoids in Urine Samples
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is structurally related to methamphetamine (MA). There are many different commercially available immunoassay (IA) reagents for the initial screening of amphetamine and/or methamphetamine. These reagents may be employed to detect MDA/MDMA in urine samples. In order to select a suitable reagent for the initial screening of MDMA in urine samples, we evaluated 7...

I report how some adulterants affect results for drugs of abuse in urine as measured by Roche RIA, Syva emit d.a.u., and Abbott TDx fpia (fluorescence polarization immunoassay) for the following drugs: amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). Sodium chloride interfered negatively with all of these drugs when assayed by emit and caused...

Screening tests (UDSTs) for the diagnosis of psychoactive drugs can identify drug abuse, improve workplace safety, ensure community health, and play a critical role in therapeutic drug monitoring. Nonetheless, correct interpretation of the results of these tests requires a full awareness of the principles of testing methods, drug kinetics, and various leading causes of false results. Among the ...
متن کاملThe False Discovery Rate in Simultaneous Fisher and Adjusted Permutation Hypothesis Testing on Microarray Data
Background and Objectives: In recent years, new technologies have led to produce a large amount of data and in the field of biology, microarray technology has also dramatically developed. Meanwhile, the Fisher test is used to compare the control group with two or more experimental groups and also to detect the differentially expressed genes. In this study, the false discovery rate was investiga...
